Migration of artifact and renaming

Hello,
A difficulty we are facing in a big company is the maintenance of the Reference Model so that it fulfils the needs of the different business processes but still aligns with standard RM.
Sometimes there is a need to rename an artifact to distinguish from similar artifact having for instance other business ownership or system configuration.
You may also need to migrate some records from one artifact to another as you realised it was in the wrong one before.
We are curious to know how other companies are managing such cases.
Are you ‘migrating’ the records already in an artifact to the new one?
Are you renaming the records as per the new artifact location?
In case records are staying in same artifact location but artifact has been renamed, are you also updating sub-artifact names accordingly?

Any other tips?
